An okay image would be a great image with the proper lighting.  The three images below are SOOC (straight out of camera) shots using natural light.  It’s always easier to recognize the difference when you can see them next to one another.  Getting proper skin tone can be ruined with too much light.  You don’t want your child to look as if they have no color in their complexion.  If you want to learn how to achieve better lighting read about class HERE.

And when you start with a properly exposed image with good skin coloring editing becomes an enhancement instead of a fix.

We will be launching a new site just for photo classes very soon.  Along with learning to use your digital SLR camera on manual I will be offering a class on how to use Photoshop to enhance your imagery, not fix them.  This class will be open to those who have already taken the manual class first.  Keep an eye out for the launch announcement.

I had a weekend full of classes and enjoyed meeting and teaching everyone.  Even with all that snow laying around we got in a lot of shooting time.  I think my favorite part about teaching is to watch their surprise when they nail a shot on manual.  🙂  Here are a few images I took from this weekend’s classes.

I wanted to share a fun little slide show of images that were shot for a project I’ve been working on….these are actually the ones that didn’t make the final cut of each child.  Enjoy!!

This is the third mom’s photography class I’ve had in the last 6 weeks.  When I started offering these I wasn’t sure how they’d go, if I’d enjoy it or even if people would really learn from it.  I have been so excited to see and hear that these ladies (and guys) have really learned a lot.  I love seeing critiques coming to my inbox and seeing just how much improvement they’ve had in their shots.  I really think I may start brainstorming some more fun things in the near future!

Here was this classes model, Mira.  She was a hoot stylin with her dress and shades.  🙂
